Advent, Day Twelve

Tuesday, 10 December: 16 But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the Lord do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.” Ruth 1:16-17

Advent, an exercise in choice. God chose to create, giving us free will. We chose rebellion, reaping separation and death. God chose incarnation, entering our existence. He opened the door, stepping through into our reality. When we chose God we enter a new family, a new reality, His reality. Ruth, the Moabite, chose God and her life changed in ways she could not imagine. He grafted her into His reality. Centuries later her name appears in the family tree, our family tree. God still lets us chose and when we chose Him, marvelous transformational things happen in ways we cannot imagine or foresee.
