Advent, Day Nineteen

Tuesday, 17 December: In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.  Luke 2:1

We assume that we understand the ins and outs of this world. In our modern twenty-first century mind, we separate things into the realm of the spiritual and the realm of the physical, making an incorrect assumption that these two realms exist separately with little interaction. We forget that God does not exist or work in the same way that we do. Seeing the end from the beginning, He weaves a marvelous tapestry, orchestrating actions and decisions in ways sublime, ways indecipherable at the moment. Caesar makes a decision for his own reasons all the while setting things up for Advent. How our choices fit into God’s scheme may be transparent at the time, but Advent reminds us that God always works His will.
