Advent, Day Eighteen

Monday, 16 December: ⁵³ he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. Luke 1:53

Advent creates choices, God has chosen and calls you and me to choose. And in a somewhat frightening choice, Mary proclaims that God chooses the poor, the indigent, and lowly. The rich He rejects. And for me, as one of the rich, this is not good news. Why is it that God chooses the poor? What is it about the poor that makes them precious in His eyes? Advent reminds me that God reaches out to the weak, the poor, those with no hope. Those of us who are well-heeled, well, according to Mary, God may very well send us, empty, away.
