Advent, Day Thirteen

Wednesday, 11 December: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

God’s choices often confound me. Why would he choose such rascally desperate sinners to play key roles in His unfolding drama? Yes, I know He wants to reveal His glory, and that makes excellent theological sense. But still, al of the great heroes of faith fell woefully short in behavior. But, even more perplexing is His willingness to send His son, stripped of power into a broken,  dark, and dangerous world. And as this child, His son will have to submit to often capricious and faulty human parenting. And we must not forget the creator having to learn to negotiate gravity in order to simply walk. But, so He chooses. Frailty, ignorance, and temptation haunted His earthly existence. The Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace endured birth. Crazy.
